July 23, 2026 – Persista Bio, Inc. received new funding through a FuzeHub Manufacturing Grant from the Jeff Lawrence Innovation Fund. This grant will enable the company to treat additional diseases and conditions by custom manufacturing cell capsules for each new cell therapy and will accelerate product development for its lead indication, Type 1 diabetes.
Insulin-secreting cell therapy has proved effective but currently requires immunosuppressants. The Persista Bio system is being designed to deliver effective doses of insulin and keep cells alive without needing lifelong immunosuppression, breaking through today’s barriers to cell therapy to provide a truly curative treatment for all people with diabetes.
The Jeff Lawrence Innovation Fund was launched in 2016 to support activities designed to spur technology development and commercialization across New York State.
“We send thanks for this support to FuzeHub in partnership with the Empire State Development’s NYSTAR division, the Jeff Lawrence Innovation Fund, and our partner Center for Life Science Ventures Cornell University,” said CEO Linda Tempelman, PhD.
Persista Bio is solving current cell therapy challenges to allow curative treatment.
